How they differ

Ethereum — the settlement layer and "world computer." It's the largest and most battle-tested smart-contract chain, hosting the deepest DeFi and institutional ecosystem. It's modular: the base chain does the heavy lifting while Layer 2s (Arbitrum, Base, etc.) handle scaling and cheaper transactions. That means higher fees and slower finality on the base layer, but enormous security, liquidity, and ecosystem depth. Its supply is capped (~120.7M ETH).

Solana — high-performance, monolithic L1. It compresses everything into one fast chain instead of layering on L2s. Using Proof of History as a clock, it processes thousands of transactions per second with sub-second finality at sub-penny fees. That's why it's the default home for meme-coin trading and consumer apps. The trade-off: a single chain carries more network risk (it has had historical outage incidents), and there's less of the modular L2 ecosystem Ethereum has. Supply is ~585.1M SOL circulating (vs. ~633.2M total), so it still inflates.
