Finding promising altcoins is more about having a system than chasing tips. Here's the general approach most people use — none of this is financial advice, just a framework for separating signal from noise.

Start with a screen, not a ticker. The coins you hear about on social media are usually already up. Better to rank by real metrics — market cap, 24h volume, holder counts — across a sector you actually understand (AI, DeFi, gaming, meme, RWA...). An altcoin is only "promising" relative to a thesis about that category.

Check on-chain facts before price. For any project you're considering, the contract should be verifiable: Is liquidity locked? Is the ownership renounced or can someone still mint/freeze/tax the supply? Is holder or creator concentration dangerously high? Evaluate the tokenomics gap honestly. No free tool reliably shows you who founded a project or its vesting/unlock schedule — that's the part you genuinely have to research yourself (team site, whitepaper, vesting announcements), because team and unlock risk is where most altcoin blow-ups actually come from.

Match risk to size. Higher market-cap altcoins (ranked top-100-ish in their category) tend to be more established with deeper liquidity; smaller-cap ones are where the upside is but also where thin liquidity and rug risk live. Position sizing follows that, not the story.

Watch momentum, don't chase it. Trending lists measure search interest, not quality — they tell you what the crowd is looking at today, which can be useful for timing but says nothing about whether a project is good.
